Non Exempt Exotic Animals: PERMIT required. 

       Classes:

  • Carnivore
  • Herbivore
  • Hybrid of a Wild Mammal
  • Omnivore
  • Primate
  • Reptile


       Permits: 

  • Individual (pets)
  • Accredited Zoo (AZA)
  • Exhibitor (other exhibitors)
  • Rehabilitator (short term care and rehabilitation – native species require a permit from the DNREC too)
  • Sales Permits (breeding and selling except Accredited Zoo and Rehabilitation permit holders)


 Note:  Accredited Zoo permit holders are the only ones allowed to breed carnivores, hybrids of wild mammals, omnivores, primates or certain herbivores or reptiles, so only ones currently owned or those imported may be kept as pets.


NATIVE SPECIES


Red Fox:  May NOT be possessed or transferred for compensation except for state owned animal exhibitions.

 Bullfrogs: BANS possession except scientific or propagating purposes, and those legally taken may be possessed, bought, and sold in any quantity. 

Skunks and raccoons: PERMIT required.

PERMIT required for commercial purposes for native wildlife, captive breeding, and reptiles and amphibians caught and possessed from the wild except one of each of these
here.

HEALTH LAWS


Wild animals and hybrids: Administering rabies vaccines to wild animals or hybrids is prohibited when not intended for use in that animal unless approved by the USDA.
